Roger Staubach is one of the most popular players ever to wear the Dallas Cowboys uniform. He came to the team just as they began to grow into becoming America’s Team, and was a large part of the reason why they were so successful in the 1970’s. He spent his whole career with the Cowboys and retired a fan favorite. He would later be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Staubach was very mobile and that skill allowed him to be creative on the field. It played a big part in him being able to escape defenders and make a much needed play. He was also blessed with a strong arm and used it on a number of occasions to lead his team to victory. To this day, some of his touchdown passes are still remembered as some of the biggest in team history.
Who was his favorite receiver though during his career?
When looking at it from the category of touchdown passes, two people tied for the mark of catching the most touchdown passes from Roger Staubach. Billy Joe DuPree and Drew Pearson both caught 27 touchdown passes from Roger the Dodger during his career. Staubach threw touchdowns to other great players too like Butch Johnson, Tony Hill, Tony Dorsett, and more. Billy Joe DuPree and Drew Pearson though sit at the top of the list. These two players, along with all of the other great receivers he had as weapons, played a large role in how good Roger Staubach was.
